Clustered Apache/MySQL Web Servers

So what keeps you up at night?  If you are in IT like me, it might be the simple fear of that 2:00 a.m. phone call proclaiming a server or service is down with demands that you need to fix it ASAP without so much as a cup of coffee first!  Most seasoned IT veterans will tell you that you just can’t have enough backups but sometimes even if you have them, restoring service can take time.  And yes, even though you have dual power supplies, hot-swappable memory, RAID, redundant NICs, redundant switches, redundant power, a SAN, etc. things CAN STILL FAIL and probably will when you have the least amount of time to deal with it!

First Blog Entry

I just set up this new blog and this is my very first entry!  My goal is to post both Linux and Windows related tips, tricks, and other findings as I go about my daily life in the IT world.

Lately I have been spending a lot of my free time working on this new site.  One element of the site that I spent untold hours on is the animated logo.  I have to admit to laughing out loud when I finally got the animation to work as I had envisioned.  Some people have asked why a penguin?  Well Tux, as he has been affectionately named, is the official mascot of the Linux kernel.  Hope you can catch a glimpse of him!
